How studios in Germany calculate prices

Most studios work with a minimum charge of €80–100 (hygiene, materials, and prep are needed even for the smallest design) and, for larger pieces, an hourly rate between €100 and €180. A detailed design in a tricky spot takes more time – which is why every good studio asks about your design, size, and placement first. Bringing a finished design saves design time: create yours in advance with the AI generator and bring it to the consultation as an HD file.

Common questions about tattoo prices

What does a tattoo cost in Germany?

Small tattoos start at around €80–150, medium designs usually run between €200 and €450, and big projects like a sleeve cost €1,000 or more. Most studios have a minimum charge of €80–100 and bill larger pieces at €100–180 per hour.

Why is the price only a range?

The final price depends on things that are only settled during the consultation: exact size, level of detail, skin type, number of sessions, and how booked the artist is. Our calculator gives you a realistic ballpark for Germany – the studio’s quote is what counts.

Why are some placements more expensive?

Spots like the ribs, hands, neck or feet are harder to tattoo: the skin is thinner or moves more, the work takes longer and requires more experience. Many artists charge a premium for them.

Does a color tattoo cost more?

Usually yes, roughly 10–20% more: color work takes more time (multiple layers, blending) and quality inks. Pure blackwork or fine-line designs are quicker to tattoo.

How can I save on a tattoo without sacrificing quality?

Choose a clean design that isn’t overly detailed and an easy-to-tattoo placement (arm, leg, shoulder), and bring a finished design with you – that saves design time at the studio. Cutting corners on the wrong things (hygiene, experience) ends up costing more in touch-ups or cover-ups.
